Need a new barcode scanner to replace a corded one currently used on a Wyse Terminal. The new one will be connected to a PC/Neoware.

Requirements are:

PS/2 Connection
Cordless (Infra-red)
Sends data direct to terminal (ala keyboard wedge)
To be used in a warehouse environment
Good battery life and recharge time
Good range, up to 50 metres needed

Any suggestions ?

Cheers.

So you want it infrared and be able to use it 50 metres away? Hmmm consider radio wireless?

Symbol scanners?

Sorry, Infra-Red should have has a question mark after it (as an option).

We have one Symbol scanner in mind, but would like to look at alternatives. The ability to store read barcodes for later downloading would also be a huge plus.

I think the Symbol scanners are the best. Much more robust than say an IPaq. Just think how many times you have dropped a scanner

I'm not sure about the offering with Psion's? We use their workabout thingys to read data from car park meters.

Red face

Don't want to be giving warehouse staff i-Paqs !!

Looks like Symbol is still the way to go then.

Maybe worth contacting a company called Microlise who specialise in barcoding and logistics equipment/software. They are also a symbol dealer and were very good when I used them at my last company
