Got the ATI 9700 Pro and all I can say is it's a fantastic card. Speed and picture quality are unbelievably good running at 1280 x 1024 x 32 bit in UT2003 max'd out everything with no slow down at all.
NOLF 2 also runs max'd out with no problems as well. Not cheap mind you paid 299 inc vat

if you can get there is a leadtek A250le 128mb
it has all you need and has a huge (HUGE) heatsink shroud over the card and you can overclock it like cray , nearly up to ti4400/4600 speeds i think.
paid £150 for mine retail with all the gubbings etc
but make sure you get the one with the massive heatsink, they are producing new stock now with a standard one because nobody was buying the 4400/4600 as they could get that performance from the 4200

I took a gamble and got mine from ebuyer.co.uk, I asked and their stock was old enough by the sound of it. I will check it when it arrives.

You cannot necessarilly over clock the Leadtek's like crazy AT ALL. Trust me, I have both a TI4600 and 4200, the 4600 having the monster heatsinks. Now, just because it has 2 fans built in and a whole heap of metal for 'cooling' that isn't necessarilly the case.
The bbga memory modules are fairly temparature sensitive and produce very little heat themselves. The 4600 core belches out heat. The heat from the gf4 core mearly warms up the whole plate and RAM rather than just keeping the RAM sinks cool and gpu sink seperate, warm and cooled with a decent fan. With the leadteks, the design actually ended up hindering the overclocking potential compared with competitors sticking th the normal cooling methods.
I removed the plates, replacing them with a copper gpu sink and ramsinks, which helped no end. I wasn't able to go above 310/680 for any prolonged period of time with the big mamma heatsinks on at all. I don't actually overclock at all now, as I really have no need to for such a little gain. Running a 3ghz P4 more provides more than enough grunt
Cheers,
Nick

Second what Daz says. Always used Detonators.
Folks, whats the general concensus of late? 9700 or 4600? I've read lots of reviews recently and the opinion seems to be divided fairly down the middle, although the 9700 looks the cheaper.
Opps, have I just hijacked a thread?

If you don't play at resolutions above 1024 x 768 32bit then save your money and get a GF4 4200.It will play games with acceptable framerates with 4x Anti-aliasing and some anistropic filtering no problem and will improve with faster cpu ungrades. Performance difference from this to GF4 4600 not worth price difference IMHO. If you use 1600 x 1200 then you really need the Radeon 9700. You can play at this res with all graphics options maxed out, 6 x anti-aliasing & 16 x anistropic filtering. Also supports DX9 although by the time DX9 enabled games come out you will probably want another graphics card anyway.
Hope this helps
