Hackers claim to have cracked new "secure" Xbox

Two competing teams of hackers claim to have cracked the new 'secure' Version 2 of the Xbox in under a week.
The teams claim that their modifications opens the door to allow the Xbox to perform a number of tricks that Microsoft and graphics chip designer Nvidia would prefer it didn't.

Team Xecuter say that their device, which they expect to be selling shortly at around $45 will enable modifiers to run alternate operating systems like Linux and play 'homebrew' code as well as imports and code from all regions.

The Xboxhacker BBS was not far behind. The site claims it has been able to 'normalise' an Xbox to run Xbox Linux code.

Although these claims have yet to be tested, it would seem to be a blow to Nvidia who are said to be responsible for the security of the machine. It also means that the hackers have probably bought themselves another six months or so before the developers can come up with a more 'secure' patch.

XBox is actually the preferred choice for hacking also.

In truth, this Christmas will be the make or break of the XBox.

XboxHacker.net Forums Gone

I saw over at XboxScene.com We received very sad news that the host of XboxHacker.net accidentally (?! how professional ...) formatted their harddrive. Both news-archive and forum database are gone. I was told there's no way to restore the drive (secure format)... that means that almost 1year of technical xboxhacking history is gone forever meanwhile....in irc i saw this as the topic..XBH Drive Wiped by host mistake - All Data LOST - News recovered, ms conspiracy, 2 servers down...(Good Luck to you guys over at Xboxhacker.net with the site,if you need anything let me know.

 

got my xbox fitted with evox and a hard drive if i want a game just pit it in the drive and copy to hard drive and the game is there until you take it off. busy going thru the blockbuster selection at the minute
