I'm after 2 slot 1 processors, does anyone know where I can get say two PIII 800 processors?
I currently have 2 * PIII 550Mhz, and the maximum the motherboard will take are a pair of 800Mhz, so any steppings between considered! Celerons and PIII's considered! Anything that might make my PC faster!!!
I've tried the likes of Computer Exchange, but they have none in stock.
Any ideas?
Cheers

MEMEMEMEMEMEME. I have some of that RAM at home that I would love to sell.
I have a 256MB stick of literally unused PC133 ECC-Registered RAM.
I pulled it from a new server that I was upgrading.
Mail me and we shall talk
Cheers,
Nick

There should be no reason why you can't run 2 fcpga chips with dumb slocket adaptors. Been a while now, but I can't remember having any issues with running those in tandem.

Nick
P.S. You will shortly have mail

Hi Andy,
Axon Computers have some PIII 850E's for sale.
Have a look at http://www.ishop.co.uk/ishop/751/shopscr282.html
However, they are in a Socket 370 package.
You can get a Socket 370 to Slot 1 adaptor from RL Supplies.
http://www.rlsupplies.co.uk/item84.htm
Hope this helps?

Andy,
They have also got PIII 733's & PIII 750's BTW
Not sure how you MB/Bios would cope with an 850 installed!
Mind you, you can tell that these PIII's aren’t very popular any more by the prices they want for them.
Might be time to upgrade to something newer!

Rob

Problem is that it's a Dell PC and it's still good enough (sort of!)
I want to upgrade it now, while I may still find parts and give it to my girlfriend (who is making do with a PIII 450MHz/196Mb/16Mb Graphics card)
The thing is the Dell Precision Workstation 410 is a good machine. With *dual* PIII 800Mhz (to replace the dual PIII 550's) and the memory will be lifted to 512Mb, and there is a reasonable 32Mb graphics card in there, so she will have no excuses!
Me on the other hand should be getting a *nice* little games machine!!

Hmm Dell Workstations....
I think the slot adapter screwed to the mb is a slightly different shape to normal slot1 cpus and do the current duals run a external thermistor for monitoring?
I am not 100% sure on this, take a look just to be sure.

The current processors do not have a thermistor and it's been fine for the last couple of years!
The current processors were from a Compaq server that had been upgraded, and they slotted in fine!

I've had a look on the Dell website and it seems that my machine will easily take 1Ghz chips, altough I don't know if they are actually running at that speed!
The machine has a 100Mhz FSB and they don't mention if they are slot 1 processors or socket ones!! I guess I'll have to trawl through the archives!

All that I looked at was the information supplied with the various BIOS updates, 800mhz was the highest mentioned, that's all.
The most common 1ghz chips are the 7.3x133mhz variants, which will simply run at 750 in that machine, that is if DELL haven't crippled the BIOS to say that if an unrecognized CPU microcode is detected, do not boot and warn the user. It would not be the first time that I have seen a Slot 1 Dell do this. May well not be the case, but you have been warned
Cheers,
Nick

It seems that the 850's should be ok and slotkit convertors are fine as well, ideally Asus ones! (Where can I get those from??)
Confirming that 800, 850 & even 1Gb processors are ok!!

I found where one of mine had ended up and demanded it back, as th bloke in question didn't need one with jumpers , but nicked that one anyway!
He will hopefully be getting it back this weekend, but I am not 100% sure....(

Hi Guys,
Sorry to interupt into this thread, but if anyone knows where i can get a thermistor or thermistor and heatsink combo for my dual processor slot 1 Dell server then please could you let me know or mail me at simon_dean@hotmail.com if it's too scary for public viewing. Been trying to track one down for ages now. It's an aging Poweredge 2200 and doesn't quite take a standard heatsink as the mounting points are slightly closer to the processor 'slot' on the motherboard than normal heatsinks.
Any help would be very much appreciated. Dell drew a blank when I phoned them.
Ta,
Simon.
