I have a Dell Inspiron 8000 P3 1Ghz. Bit of an old model now, but still excellent. A friend has the 8100 model, and cannot fault it either. It also has some upgradeable featyres, that other laptops do not.
Check out Dell outlet
They really are a lot cheaper now, and thats for P4.
Even my old one has P3 1Ghz, 48gig HD, 32meg ATI M4 Graphics, ESS sound, DVD/CDRW built in. Network card+56K, Firewire, + swappable media bay, for various drives/battery/etc 15" UXGA Screen.
Cant complain about it at all, although it is quite low spec by modern standards, even tho its less than a year old .
Not sure about the 2000 series, best to go for the 8000 series ie 8200.
