Gareth,

I did this one a couple of years back www.javaconsult.com, it was the best value for money and done on a friday/sat/sun the guy isn't the best speaker but does know his stuff. Dont think he does it anymore but I also got the Java 2 certification study book which is a mighty tome thwon in as well.

Only criticism I had was there was no database stuff/JDBC which obviously in the real world your gonna need pretty soon.

Oops, just checked the site not sure if the courses are even still run, the course dates are out of date. There was another one I was looking called T++ but can;t find them either!!!! not much help am i

Gary

Question

Hi,

I'm sick of trying to learn Java from books/websites etc - just can't get motivated enough. I want to book myself on a classroom-based Java course and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations?

My wish list:

Weekend preferably (I'm a contractor)
Fast-paced (I'm already a programmer and don't want to waste my money listening to stuff I already know)
Based on Sun Certified Java Programmer syllabus
Local to Northwest

Anybody had any good experiences?

Thanks,
Gareth

Thanks Gary - it's www.tplusplus.net...

I guess T++ are the front-runners but it's hard to get any independent info on them. Plus they seem to only run courses in London at the moment.

Hi Gary,

I'm a content management specialist so mainly use software other people have never heard of (Documentum??).

Otherwise, Visual Basic plus general webby stuff - Javascript etc.

Cheers,
Gareth

Theres always the SunEd Java courses. Not weekend based granted, but you'll be instructed by a Java Certfied Programmer, and will get lots of tips and useful pointers for the exam or at least I did.

A friend of mine went on the Sun training and can't speak highly enough of it. However, he was also prepared to fork out £1500 and lose a week's earnings...
