We are trying to move a user from ou to ou, calling movetree.exe from command line:
MOVETREE /check /S dcon-grl-03.e2.corp.xxx.com /d dcon-grl-03.e2.corp.xxx.com /sdn "CN=jason test,OU=Test Accounts,OU=xxx Users,DC=e2,DC=corp,DC=xxx,DC=com" /ddn "CN=jason test,OU=Deleted Accounts,OU=xxx Users,DC=e2,DC=corp,DC=xxx,DC=com" /verbose
It fails with this error:
movetree.err
ERROR: 0x1f A device attached to the system is not functioning. MoveTree failed to establish connection to server dcon-grl-03.e2.corp.xxx.com
Has anyone done this, if so does the syntax look right ? &/or is it a permissions issue ??
I appreciate that I can use the ADMT but I need to use the command line tool specifically. We havn't got Enterprise or Schema permissions btw.
I would appreciate any opinions (useful)...c'mon don't be scared now

a couple of things...
User must be a leaf object.
Sam Constraints... ie if password is too short for target...
User belongs to global groups in the source domain...

right, the guy who is writing the scripts has done it now with help from the software on this site:
I have to admit I'm not a script kiddy, but do have limited knowledge...
http://www.pedestalsoftware.com/ntsec/ntcmds.htm
it's 30 day trialware...& worked a treat, so ditched movetree & used dsuser.exe
thanks anyway David for your effort.

gonna say I found this...
For the users moving between domains, use the Movetree utility, specifying the source and target domains and OUs. For the users moving between OUs in the same domain select the accounts. Then choose MOVE from the ACTION menu, targeting the new OU.

David, I did know this already mate...(I do a bit)
cheers anyway.
check your mail
edited to add, we need to run a script to use a list of disabled users so that we have an automated way of doing it. It reality we could have done it manually quicker as it was only 200 users, but your a teccy you know what it's like when someone gives you a list of x amount of users & you have to do it by hand.
