freezing

when i switch on the computer the start up seems ok but when it gets to the desktop it freezes without fully finishing.
it gets to the point where i can only select shutdown then restart and hope for the best, sometimes it takes 7 or 8 attempts to get the thing started properly.
p.s im not very comp literate so any instructions to be kept simple :-) thanks

when you switch comp on press F8 just before the windows loading screen select Safe mode when windows has loaded goto start, settings, control panel, add /remove programs and remove any recent or all programs you may have installed and try that or press F8 then when loaded shut down and restart

If leeMacs suggestion is not apropriate to your situation as your reply indicates do it anyway to the point where you boot the computer into safe mode.
Then just leave it for a bit. When you come back check that it is still working. Check the mouse and a few simple programs.
If all is fine it could be software corruption and a HD reformat may help. Dont forget to back up any important data first
If it still crashes it may be a loose connection. Power down, open box and check all connections. If this still does not help you do have a bit of a problem. Most of my faults over the years have been loose/dry connections.
To be sure that its not a software problem see if you can boot to C prompt - Use F8 key as for safe mode but select the C propt option (or what ever it is called). If PC still crashes then it may be hardware.
Fixing hardware faults can be difficult if you do not have spare parts to swap in and out. Before you buy anything expensive like a new Mobo replace the power supply. It s a piece of cake to fit a new one usually and costs about £20.
If that does not help it starts to get more expensive.
