Question

I need to make a registry change to around 100 workstations. What's the easiest way of doing this. I'd rather stay away from the login script as most users don't login/out. Prefer something I can run from my workstation as a batch file.

I think I've found a way using the XP "REG ADD" command. Should be able to create a batch file for all the workstations (I have a list of their computer names already).

if that doesn't work ozzy, use dameware, it has a batch file delivery remotely.

There are some tools in the NT4 resource kit for accessing a remote registry by command-line.

Thanks guys. The REG ADD command worked a treat. Just used Excel to paste the commands into rows along with all the PC names. Then just exported as a CSV file and did a quick search/replace on the commas.

It's much easier to cut 'n paste on rows and columns rather than trying it in notepad.

export the changes to a .reg file, next time the workstations login to the server, run a script/batch file :-

regedit /s xyz.reg

this will import the changes without any prompts on screen

Yeah, could've done that, but as I said I don't want to use the login script. Can't rely on users to logout never mind logging in.

Also, doesn't the user need permissions to run the "regedit /s" command?

With the REG commands, you can do everything remotely and don't have to worry about users getting error messages (and bothering me)
