Currently I am running a Pentium II 300 MHz Win95 with Office 97 64mB RAM at work. I am due a new PC in a few weeks Pentium IV 1.8 MHz 256 MB RAM

I have borrowed a colleagues machine with Win2000 for the last week due to a requirement to produce a 38 MB Word document which my machine would not handle

There seem to be alot more possibilities and alot more restrictions with Win2000 when networked!
Anybody know about this? The system will be networked and we have IT administrators at work. If they don't give me 'administrator level' usage can I get round it for installing sofware on the machine etc.

Any advice gratefully recieved - Please!

Mick

It really depends on how good your IT guys are, also if you add your self in to the Local administrators guy they might be able to see that you have deliberately changed the config of the box.

If you don't mind me asking, why exactly do you want higher access powers? For everyday things (Word, E-mail, internet etc.) normal user accounts are fine, for administrative access than Admin accounts are required.

Mick,

What happens at our place of work on 'normal' users machines is that you have to call the HelpDesk and they temporarily switch you over to (I think) Power User for a few hours to give you time to install new software. However, they don't like doing it unless really necessary as most people should only need the software installed as part of the machines build.

Cheers

Ian
