does anybody know of a way of taking a picture of my screen so i can say display it on the web as a gif etc

Hold down ALT-GR and press Print Screen this will copy it into your clipboard, you can then paste it into your graphics package.

No, that's far too simple.

Buy a digital camera. Turn off the lights, close the curtains, snap away. Upload to your PC. Crop in photoshop or some other application. et voila!

If this appears in a Viz Top Tip I'll be annoyed

Why press the Alt Gr button?

I just press Print Screen then paste into graphics program

PrtScr by it self copies the whole screen (including task bar etc.). ALT PrtScr just copies the active window.
