1. Single FAT32 partition with both OS's on it, or...
2. Primary Partition with Win98, 2nd Partition with XP Pro ?
3. ?

Whats the best option ?

Hi Daz,

I used partion magic to create an NTFS partition and put XP in that. I then put Win 98 into a FAT32 partion.

When my PC boots it asks if I wish to boot XP or Win 98. It defaults to XP.

Advantages :1. XP can read files in either partion and has been more reliable than Win 98.

Disadvantages.1 Win 98 can only read files in Fat32 partion.
2. You'll end up with lots of Drive letters !

I primarily did the above as I wasn't 100% sure XP would be compatible with everything (hardware and software) I wanted to run. However after nearly 9 months the only reason I need Win 98 is to use my scanner as I can't get it to work with XP properly.

Give it a go !

Regards,

Ian

i had it running well.

Fdisk 30:10 split.

98 on HD0
Xp on HD1

You can install office etc all to HDO from XP and 98 just registers with each OS rather then one copy one hard drve etc.

98 must be put on 1st though

Si

Thanks people - I've already did this earlier today, but its nice that other people agree:

FISK 2 partions
1st partition Win98 (FAT32)
2nd parition XP Pro (FAT32)

One hard disk sadly (its a works PC) but its a 40GB DiamondMax ATA133, so its fine for this.

Also decided to upgrade her earlier today - stuck in:
Athlon XP 2100
Gigabyte board, ata133, lan, sound, etc...
512DDR PC2100 (cheap)
GF1 PRO (had one lying around)

Its a bit quicker than the Pentium II 300 that WAS in.
