IMO definitely

The number of good games at the moment is pretty limited, but there are a lot of superb X-Box only games on the horizon.

Built-in hard disk, broadband, 4 controller ports, you'd be silly not to Loads of 3rd party utils going around too, so you can play DivX files etc too . . .

Yep Divx. Not perfected yet, but very nearly there. Apparently VCD and other mpegs work fine too

How noisy is the XBox? The only real annoying thing with the PS2 is that bl00dy fan. Makes watching DVD's a pain in the @rse

How much is the DVD kit for the XBox?

you will be ablt to get a HDD 80GB for PS2 and broadband connectivity, plus game developers have already "cut their teeth" on the programming language so, there is no reason to buy an XBOX

It just give Bill Gates another £150 to P*** up the wall....

DONT DO IT!!!

Long live PS2

I would say buy one. I have got one (shortly to be chipped) and intend to run things like SuSe LINUX 8 on it just to show all the MS die hards at work its possible (i got money on this )

I also intend to replace the HDD so i can put my games on there and run from HDD - it will be much quicker. Only thing to remember is if you use a 7200rpm disk, you may need a fan as they generate alot more heat than the standard 10gb 5400rpm one.

Dave,

Just how noisy is it? Do you have or have you heard the PS2? If so, how does it compare?

Its still pretty noisy. I'd say about the same as the PS2. Mines tucked away in the TV cabinet so the noise is reduced to suitable levels

Well, I bought one today and am very impressed with what Ive seen so far. Thanks for the advice given, I got a 3 games and the digital sound scart as well, not bad for less then £230.

In answer to questions regards noise level, there is a bit of noise but it gets drowned out by 5.1 sound (awsome)

I got one of the first (ie 300quid) Xboxes, yes they are a bit on the noisey side - just solved that with a purchasing a small cabinet housing the Xbox, video, amp and CD player.

Recommended, the graphics ability is hot, on DVD playback the Xbox kicks the *** of the PS2. But in fairness the variety of games for the PS2 is much greater.

MS have announced they will scan online gamers for chipped or modified boxes and will then exclude them from X-Online.

There are chips available now that at switchable and do not modify the bios in any way, therefore they cannot be detected.

Cool

Definatly yes, but one.
It shats on a PS2 - everyone I know who own's a PS2 sold them to get an XBox, so that should tell you something.
Admitably, there isn't a good choice of games at the moment, but with the promise of 150 games by X-Mas and some quality games in the next few months (Quantum Redshift? See what Microsoft did when they got the Wipout designers onboard. Splinter Cell - Kicks Metal Gear Solid all over the place.)
Best buy I ever made.

On the modchip front, you can install an X-Ecuter and a 45p switch from Maplins to bypass it.
