Question

My work are looking to sell 20 of their older PC's.

They are all of the following spec:-

Dell OptiPlex G1
Intel Pentium II 400Mhz (max 500Mhz)
64Mb RAM (2 x slots, max 256Mb RAM)
Maxtor 4GB IDE Hard Disk
Samsung x40 IDE CD-ROM
ATI 2Mb IIC Video Card (onboard, max 4Mb)
3Com 3C90x 10/100 NIC (onboard)
Mini-Tower Case
Dell Keyboard
Microsoft Mouse
Dell 17" Monitor

£150

They were all purchased in June 1999. The cases and screens need a clean, but other than that are all in fine working order.

Stefan

Edited to add picture and costs

Unhappy

very difficult to sell for any price been there but with 3 or 400, ended up giving them away to employees and local Community Centres and Schools(little interest from schools ) Bottom line is 2nd hand IT kit is work **** all.
Try flogging them on Ebay , but packing them all up and deleting the data correctly would be a major hassle.

We ended up crushing about 150.....

People will buy them. E-Bay would be a great way to get rid of them and with some patience you should be able to see over £100 for each (especially with monitor etc).

Lots of people are buying second machines for Linux/Home Firewalls/Home controls/Kids etc etc. As you just cant buy a "new" low spec PC, 2nd hand is the only way.

Although they could do with a bit more ram they would be absolutley fine for Normal light WP or Spreadsheet duty. Or to be bashed to bits by young kids.

If I remember rightly ozzy you are in the Edinburgh area are you not?

There is a second hand dealer in Edinburgh who takes this sort of spec machines off me. Phone Tom Kelly of Second Byte on 01314677077.

He will come and collect and give you some money it saves a whole load of hassle.

Thumbs up

Thanks Willie.

We're based in Livingston, so not far away from your good self. I'll phone Tom tomorrow and see what he offers for some of them.

Cheers,
Stefan

Company bosses reckon £150 and a few suggested as much as £200. I'm still skeptical.

What do you think?

Not in bulk.

Around the £100 mark to personal customers on something like Ebay

Much less for the pallet load to a re-furb company.
