Ericsson T39m, win98, infra red
This should work straight out of the box, just assign a standard generic modem driver to the virtual COM port that is assigned to the IR port.
Alternativley you should find the Ericsson Drivers on the CD that came with the phone.

Thanks guys
Tried the ericsson drivers. No luck. Tried using the ericsson troubleshooter app, reinstalled the IR device, the ericsson software, the modem driver and they talked, briefly. Haven't managed to get anywhere since.
Any suggestions?

Delete the Nokia profile & re-install
IIRC its a Com issue that locks the Nok to the available port - deleting that connection will help reaolve
[Puff currently using T39 + iPaq over Bluetooth & GPRS to write this
