Odd mailing problem
#1
Over the past week I have three MAIL NOT DELIVERABLE type notes - all apparently mails from me sending a 70k .wav file.
However I have not sent one - and I don't recognise the addresses!
WTF is going on?
Any clues anyone?

probably klez virus somewhere, has picked up on your email address from a bbs or website and is spoofing it to send out mail... have you got good virus protection on your pc (and uptodate) ???

"the worm has the ability to spoof the From: field (often set to an address found on the victim's machine)."
Chances are somebody has your e-mail addy in their address book, has been infected by Klex and it's picked your addy to 'send' the messages from.

Trout,
Me too m8, wondered what was going on. Mine only started when I used a distribution list for people on scooby net. See here and see if any of the user names ring a bell, there may be a link !

Dave,
In the last three days I have received seven emails on this address (which I don't use for anything other than occasional scoobynet correspondence) which were Mailer-Daemon returned mail messages. However I had not sent email to any of the addresses and did not recognise any of them. Is this the same as your problem and what can be done about it?
I have Norton Anti-virus which is updated online every few days.

Lizzy,
Don't think there is much we can do until we find out who has the virus. Add the email address to this thread, perhaps somebody might spot there contact list is slowly being worked on !

Trout, bugger all you can do really.
If the person with the virus has mailed you just once and hence got your e-mail addy in their address book, Klex can use it.
Take for instance this...
The Star Internet anti-virus service, powered by MessageLabs, discovered
a potential virus or unauthorised code (such as a joke program or
trojan) in an email sent by you.
The email has now been quarantined and was not delivered.
To help identify the mail:
The message sender was
Scooby@cxi.org.uk
The message was titled Hello, meeting notice
The message recipients were
GraemeF@teletext.co.uk
The message date is Sun, 12 May 2002 14:14:44 +0100
Found the W32/Klez.h@MM virus !!!
I've never e-mailed anyone at Teletext.co.uk. I know for a fact at that time and date, I was sat in Little Miss WRX's garden, enjoying the sun after a big night on the beers
Keep your own AV software up to date and encourage anyone without it to get some ASAP. About all you can do.
Chris.
