My cable modem is playing up....tried ringing Blueyonder tech help, no use whatsoever.
Basically, I've got 3 MAC addresses registered 1 for my PC and 2 for my laptops, have always been able to switch between devices by simply powering off the modem, plugging it back in with the new device connected, picked up an address no problemo
Thats how it used to work till last week anyway...
Now I can only ever get an IP address on my main PC, never get one on either laptop. I've done all the things I can think of doing, releasing the IP on when on my PC, resetting the modem on the back, unplugging for an hour or so. Still I never get an IP address on either laptop
Tech support can't help me, they won't replace my modem as they say its fine.
Any suggestions what else I can do?
I know its talking to the modem as I get the default address that XP assigns when it can't contact a DHCP server, when I plug the network cable in this goes to 0.0.0.0 while trying to pick up an address, but it fails here..

John,
Have you checked http://selfcare.blueyonder.co.uk where you can register your MAC address's
Also try giving yout laptop a Static IP od 192.168.100.100 (with a 255.255.255.0 Subnet) and open a HTTP connection to 192.168.100.1 to see what the CAble Modem is doing.

Cheers, will give the forums/static addr a try tonight
I have checked and all 3 MAC addresses are listed under selfcare, they have all worked in the past no probs.

Well, tried the 192.100 address, can see the modem fine, all looks well.
Spent about 3 hrs talking to various people at Blueyonder and guess what!, they don't know what's causing the problem

where else do you plug your laptops in?
Are they still holding IP adressing from your work LAN? - can you check in your TCP/IP properties as I would assume (not used cable modems but must be similar to DSL modems) that they should have a check in the "obtain an address automatically" option

nope gone through all believe me
I think it the cable modem, it's not releasing the bind to the mac address of my PC's nic, so when another nic goes on it wont talk.

Yes DJ, tried that one aswell
Can see the stats on the modem no problem when on my laptop, just can't pick up a fricking DHCP address.
Tried another laptop with the PCMCIA modem I got registered to use and that don't work either
