I know this should maybe be in computer related but I am posting it here as not everyone looks in there.
I work for an ISP and am trying to organise a decent discount on the wires only 50:1 product but need an idea of numbers (if everyone has already got it then there is no point)
I am looking to swing it for £25/month + £70 setup fee including VAT as this usually costs between £30-£35/month. For this you would get your analogue/ISDN phone line converted to ADSL, and a username/password login with a static IP address (you will need to get your own USB modem/Ethernet router - can help if there is demand)
Why am I doing this? - because we are a business only service provider and so have loads of off-peak bandwidth going spare and because I want to give something back to Scoobynet
Email me if interested (in profile)

Hello Bioforger - have you pre-registered with your ISP?
The more people who do this, the more BT can see that people want ADSL and so the role out process will speed up
To check up on progress, have a look at ADSL Guide's league table

OK
This has now had 100 views but no interest. Please could I have some feedback: Has everyone already got it or is this too expensive. The above prices are not yet set so if it needs to be cheaper then please post it up!
If you think this is a pointless group buy then tell me too...

Personally, I think that for most people on here the cost of ADSL is less of an issue that the availability of it!
There are plenty of people that I know of, including myself, that have wanted ADSL at some point in the past and can't due to either (a) non enabled local exchange, or (b) distance from the damn thing.
Fortunately 1Mb cable seems to do for me at the moment - but plenty of people I know of still suffer 56K dial-up due to the inability of BT to plan or engineer anything properly....
..and to think that 'real soon now' they might actually let 3rd party companies into their exchanges to install their own kit - as Oftel have told them to do - but whilst they still hold the keys to the door it'll continue to be a painful process!

will this allow youre home phone to accept incoming calls at the same time?
I currently have bt openworld at work at the mo for 35 a month and aol ulimited for 15 a month at home so 20 to 25 quid might be interesting for home use
how much would a modem set me back

Jon, as you asked.
Viewed the thread but already have cable.
512k £25 inc modem rental and free installation.
Don't have a clue how much ADSL is to install and rent in my area.

Yep to phone calls at same time.
Routers are <£100 so I imagine modems are about £60ish
DW - I have a four port router (free) install was gratis and the rental costs me zip
NO! this is not available as part of the GB

Edited to add: by that I meant BT won't let you have it

I`m another who is desperate for it, yet cannot have it
Seems to me, B.T. are only interested in enabling exchanges if theres a threat from the cable companies. If cable isnt available in your area, then neither will ADSL. Having people on ISDN and modems means less bandwidth used, and more money charged!!
*******s!

Hey Dream Weaver,
£23.44? - plus VAT? (£27.52/month)
Install costs ISP's ££££ and so do the modems - what kinda service you getting? must be with a charity

Broadband stops just outside my town - the bloody council would not permit it
So I can pre-register until I'm blue in the face, but it won't make a scrap of difference!!!

For all that asked, as Mo said it was an offer Pipex was doing a few months back. Took 10 days from ordering online, sending my old dialup (33.3) modem in, to receiving the modem and being up and running.
Service so far has been superb, and it has only been troublesome during thunderstorms for some reason.
£23.44 is including VAT.
If you look in .net magazine they do a list of ISP's each month. The number 1 slot is currently doing ADSL at £18.95 a month.
Just hunt and you will find

I've just looked up my local exchange on the BT/ASDL pop chart thingy and we're right up there at....................number 1132 with a massive 8 pre-registrations.
I won't hold my breath.

I went with Demon last week. Same deal as yours Festa, ie £25/month and I had to buy my own hardware. I bought a PCI modem and one filter for £56 all-in.
I can't remember the set-up cost but I think it was £50, possibly +VAT

Hey Rusty, if you do Aberdeen, give me a couple of weeks for me to get the keys to my new house[1] and I'll be able to put some business your way .
[1] Pretty close to the centre, and BT claim it's ADSL enabled. My current abode is in the country and there's nae chance here.
