I am designing an e-commerce site for a record shop.

The host I'm using supports mySQL, I could probably find out what it is, but can anybody give me a brief rundown of what it is/features?

Where are there any decent resources etc.

And is it better than an Access database?

Cheers,

RikW

mysql is a freebie clone of MS(*****) sql. if you have db's set up in ms(fools) sql on a server and are paying multi$$$$, you can save all the files and use them on mysql.. for zilch

Of course if MS didnt exist we would all be using separate OS's and not have much ability for computers to communicate - so they are not that bad really are they

Rik, as someone who spends on average £100 per week online on buying vinyl, I'd be interested to see how well this site works.

There is at least one major flaw with each site I've seen and I have already spec'd up what I'd consider to be the perfect system.

I'm writing it myself though so I'm keeping tight lipped about the features it has!

Of MySQL?

No transactions
No sub-selects
Stored procedures require a recompile

There are others, but they escape me. It's a good little database though, pretty fast, does what most people need.

Also, depending on how big you expect your db to be, there's a 2 Gig file size limit on Intel Linux, something to keep in mind.

Steve.
