I have a PC with windows ME on it. After it has booted to the desktop it starts trying to access the floppy disk repeatedly, about 6 times at first then about another 40 times - it goes too fast for me to count !! Then when I shut it down it tries again another half dozen times.

I have tried putting a disk in it as it boots and it then only tries the one time, but I don't understand why it tries at all.

It has been alright for the past 6 months but started doing it all of a sudden. There are no viruses, I have the latest definitions installed and have scanned the entire disk.

Please can someone help me to make it stop. I have looked on microsofts site and can't find anything about it.

Do a search on the C drive for files with a .lnk extension containing a: Remove all the files you find. These are shortcuts to files you have opened via floppy disk.
