I saw an ad from mesh going on about the motherboard supporting DDR333 memory, but when you look at the detail the memory supplied with it was plain old DDR266. Not sure if there was an upgrade option.

I had a "few" problems with MESH, and IMHO I wouldn't buy another PC from them. IMHO Their technical support left me wondering how they actually sold PCs.
This is all my own opinion and I wouldn't let that put you off

Thanks for the comments.
I don't think I'll ever get round to buying a PC. Never know which one of these companies will go bust next, all their aftersales services seem kak, and by the sounds of things you don't get everything you expect!
I'm too scared to build myself one though !

Darren,
Just get your hands dirty and build it yourself. They're a piece of pi$$, you could even train a monkey to do it
Come to think of it, I think Mesh have already

I'm almost convinced, does anyone want to provide me with some simple steps, with potential pitfalls to avoid ?
I'll crack open a packet of peanuts whilst reading to see if I'm up to the job!

Well, for a start, the standard parts for a PC would include:-
CPU + cooling fan (as it gets quite hot without it)
Motherboard
RAM (256Mb good start, 512Mb better)
Hard Disk (again bigger the better)
CD-ROM or DVD
Floppy Disk (if you still want one)
Video Card
Keyboard
Mouse
Monitor (bigger the better and the flatter the better)
Case (to stuff all the bits into)
Power Supply (if you don't get one with the case)

Try http://www.crucial.com/uk/index.asp
You can select your chosen mobo and the site will tell you what ram to buy. Prices are OK and I run their stuff in a number Dell servers with no problems.
If you buy a complete PC you get a warranty, handy if you don't know what you are doing. If you can put one together yourself you can probably get by with the warranties on the individual parts.
As said it is not difficult to assemble a PC, glorified Lego/Meccano really. If you search on the web you will find plenty of how-to pages.
Good Luck

Thanks again for the replies.
I'll have a delve into the costs of building my own PC and see if it is worth it. Why do I get this feeling I'm assuming the role of Frankenstein of the PC world ?

I bought my first Mesh PC in 98 and i bought my second one this year i have always found their tech support is equal or better than the competion. I have also spoken to a couple of other people who had bought from them and they were happy but having read the postings on here i wonder if i have been lucky.

Have a look at Multivision.
I've just bought the "Vision Gold" from them a couple of weeks ago after a 6/6 review in PC Plus. I'm pleased with it so far, comes with 5 year warranty. I've called tech support once so far on just a minor thing, but they answered the call quickly and were very helpful.
Be warned it sounds like a hoover though But I think "they all do that sir" when it comes to Athlon XP based systems. I might invest in some silent fans I think, but you tune out the noise before too long.
Edit to say my uncle has a Mesh a year or two old, he'd had Meshs before and didnt really consider any other make, but this time he's been disappointed with the customer service etc.
