I have a PC with Windows XP home on it and it has started dialing the internet of it's own accord, even when the phone line is in use.

How can I make it stop ?? Is it possible it could have been infected with a virus and it is trying to dial up and email everyone in my address book or something ?

Is there some sort of autodial feature in XP that needs switching off ?

Thanks

Ken

Question

Is it your email app dialing out? Or perhaps an instant messenger application (MSN or whatever)?

You need to disable "on demand dialling". Check internet explorer properties, "connection" tab, then check "never dial"...

I believe you may need to check the properties of your connection too...

if you dont use messenger, you can kill it.

1. Click on the Start button and select Run.
2. Type "RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove" in the text box and click OK. You will see a progress bar appear shortly as it deletes its files and it will then ask you to reboot. After the reboot the program will be gone.

and since you are using XP, have a look at this.
