A question for those who might have bought a laptop from overseas.

Do they tend to have worldwide warranties ?

The US on-line prices do look tempting (for a Tosh satellite, anyway), and I know folks who are coming over in a month or so.

AFAIK toshiba is a worldwide warranty (maybe compaq/hp and dell are too)

Sony - even if they did have one I wouldn't buy them as their support is crappamaxmimus.

I'll second the comment about Sony.

Although I did get a good turnaround on a replacement keyboard. Cost nearly 200 quid for the bloody privilege though. [img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img]

If you actually read the warranty on the Toshiba US site you will find that for the current Satellite:

1. The warranty is NOT transferrable.
2. The warranty for the 16xx series is only valid in the US
3. The warranty for other satellites is valid in the US and "when you travel"

You will find it difficult to buy a Toshiba online with a non-US credit card so it would be difficult for you to be the original purchaser. Toshiba have tighened up their warranty conditions in the US in recent times. The days of all Toshibas having a worldwide warranty seem to have gone, although it does vary depending on where you buy the laptop.

Wouldn't buy in the states anyway - buying toshiba anywhere else you get the worldwide warranty..

the Compaq laptops/desktop have world wide warranties, but you need to transfer the warranty to the country of installation for our servers.
