Cheers, I know the one in the Compaq is a IBM Deskstar (I think)
The one out the Tosh is a Toshiba

both HDD are in a "case". the compaq is a bit of a bummer to unscrew coz they use special screw head. what you can do is use a clamp or pliers to unscrew it. make sure you remove the contact ribbon carefully. they are sticked on with some plastic cover.

Check they have the same height profile.

Some lappies will only take the really thin drives (17mm or something?)

most modern notebook HDD will be 12.5mm. superslim HDD can go down to 9.5mm!!!
