Windows Messgenger on XP
Right, as you might know, I've got my *** into gear and have a PC at home with internet connection.
i have one problem though.
I use MSN Messenger at work, cos, well, I do. Plus I use windows messger at home (on XP)
The problem I have is that when the old man fires up the PC to check his email Windows Messenger is auto singing in, and here in the office MSN freaks and says "you are allready signed in at another location" This happened in the middle of a conversation with one of the US team, so did not go down too well.
I *know* I could use a different account for work and home, but it means people would have 2 entries for me in thier contact list, and I think that is too much hassle.
Plus and this is the main reason, I do NOT want people msning me when it is my father in front of the screen.
So, the question is. where in XP can I tell Windows Messenger NOT to auto sign in. I've looked in Messenger options but can't find anything to prevent an auto sign in.
HELLLLLLLPPPPP
someone did mention that I could upgrade to MSN Messenger on XP, is this right?

In Options>Preferences there's an option to stop Messenger running when Windows starts. Failing that you could do Start>Run and type msconfig. This would take you into your startup menu where you should be able to take Messenger out of your startup.
When you want to use messenger at home you would just have to start it up

I clicked the Help button
If you do not want to be automatically signed in when Windows Messenger starts running, you can remove your .NET Passport as the default on that computer.
Go to User Accounts in the Windows XP Control Panel (Start, Control Panel).
On the Advanced tab, click Manage Passwords.
In Stored User Names and Passwords, select Passport.Net\*, and click Remove.
This does not delete your Passport, but removes its connection with your computer.
Click Close, and then click OK in the dialog box.
Note
If you click Sign me in automatically in the .NET Messenger Service sign-in dialog box, you will reestablish the Passport you use there as the default for that computer.

I also had this prob with me & my wife....she would come home from work, switch on PC, sign onto the internet & log me off messenger at work!
So I just simply set up another user account - One for me, and one for the wife....so she just clicks on her name as XP boots up and it loads up all of her own settings (background, screensaver, My Documents etc) PLUS all of her .NET passport info & email address.
Much easier to control.
