Half-Life Mouse Problem

When i play halflife online at work everything is fine and i can aim at ppl no probs. However at home (1mb cable vs work's 512k ADSL) i get times where the mouse lags - particularly when i zoom weapons. It'll just go damn slow and not turn or whatever. I think it is since the latest patch.
Any ideas on how to sort. (The mouse is same at work and at home - MS Optical Explorer).
