Needed a USB cable at short notice the other week so dived into our local PC World and shelled out about £13 for a 1.8m Belkin. Ouch but urgent so never mind.
Was in our local B&Q warehouse the other night and found they had USB cables for ~£3. Not thought of looking in there before - had a few bits of CAT5 and networking kit as well.

The belkin may have been USB 2.0 certified ?
B&Q do perfectly servicable 10/100 PCI Network cards for about £9. Unbranded RTL8139 based. Wouldnt use them in my Enterprise servers but fine at home and work fine with Linux.
