Just had my BY service upgraded to 1meg. What an improvement.

Whether its worth the extra 10 quid is another matter (my company pays for it).

So is there any extra cabling required.

Can we get hold of this firmware and . . . . .
Or is there more to it than that ?

Would have thought you would get more than that. I get 70k/sec on my 512k connection.

Our work connection is 2mb, and despite shared by 70 users, i can get 210k/sec.

There was something on the NTLWorld website about changing a registry entry. Packet size and MTU I think. This improved mine from about 62 to 70.

Try here http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d...ips/index.html

I theory you can uncap your modem yourself (if you know how). BUT, BY would find out and revoke your service (for good probably).

All you have to do is visit the BY www.blueyonder.co.uk/evenfaster and login with your account details. They then zap your cable modem with new settings and hey your surfing at x2 speed than before.

Great, now where's those MP3 :-)

Ran speadtest it says:

Speed Test Report

Broadband Speed Tester - for Telewest blueyonder - 1Mb Trial (super-whoosher)
Get this test from http://www.vantage.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk

By Daniel Elwell - dannyelwell2001@msn.com
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~
These results are only a snapshot of this particular moment. They are dependant
on any other Internet use on this computer and any delays
on the Internet. To improve accuracy, run the test several times.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~

Section 1: General Ping Results
A Ping test is the time taken for a server to reply to a request

Blueyonder Server:
14ms - Excellent - better than expected

UK Server 1 (www.demon.net):
15.5ms - Excellent - better than expected

UK Server 2 (www.microsoft.co.uk):
12.75ms - Excellent - better than expected

UK Server 3 (www.ic24.net):
31.25ms - Normal - it's about right!

USA East Coast Server (www.yahoo.com):
114.25ms - Normal - to be expected

USA West Coast Server (www.lycos.com):
121.25ms - Normal - to be expected

European Server (www.marcopoly.com):
29.75ms - Excellent - better than expected

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~
Section 2: Custom Server Ping Results
These results are to four user-definable servers.
Blueyonder Counter-Strike 1:
20.25ms -
Blueyonder Team-Fortress Leage 1:
20.5ms -
BarrysWorld Master Server (all games):
0ms - *** PING timed out ***
Tracert to specified location:
Tracert was cancelled
Barrysworld Quake III Arena:
12.75ms -
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~

Section 3: Download Speed Results
Three downloads are tested; one from a Telewest blueyonder - 1Mb Trial (super-whoosher) server, one through your Transparent Cache and one through an alterntive cache. This will give you an idea of how capable your connection is and how well the Telewest blueyonder - 1Mb Trial (super-whoosher) Caches are performing.

Telewest blueyonder - 1Mb Trial (super-whoosher) Server Download:
144KB/s (1152Kb/s) - Superb - much higher than expected

Download through Transparent Cache:
123KB/s (984Kb/s) - Perfect - running at full speed!

Download through alternative Cache (webcache.blueyonder.co.uk):
120KB/s (960Kb/s) - Perfect - running at full speed!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~
Section 4: Packet Loss
50 Ping Requests are sent to your server. The packet loss is measured by how many of the packets don't bounce back to the client. High packet loss may slow down your connection.
50 packets were sent, 50 bounced back; 0% loss (estimated)
Fantastic - no packets dropped!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~

Section 5: Transparent Cache Page Fetch Time
This test times how long your Transparent Cache takes to fetch a page from the Internet. Please note that this test is subject to many different parameters and sometimes may not be 100% accurate. This test can be used to show delays when trying to view Internet sites. The timing takes place from the moment the request for the file is sent to the moment the proxy server responds.

Average time taken to retrieve a page: 81ms - Fine, nothing to worry about

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~
Yep, read all the articles. But if you get caught then you could loose your service.
Have you uncapped yours then?
