I'm purchaseing a new PC this weekend.

Is DDR memory worth buying over SDRAM? Are Athlon XP's any good over P4's?

Go for DDR. It's quicker and the PC will have a longer life span for future upgrades.

For value for money, the Athlon XPs will usually beat the P4 hands down.

What sort of budget have you got?

Chris.

Top of the range P4s with the newer quicker RDram are quicker than the Athlons. If you're spending near £2k then look at P4s if not then Athlon.

My budget is about £700. I need motherboard, cpu, memory, graphics, case, cd-rw, cables.

www.aria.co.uk looks like a cheap place.

yeah, got my stuff from Aria, great service, cost etc... if you're looking at their bundles i'd stay away from the K7s5A MB as they can be a bit fussy (i have one)... best bet is to pick a GOOD MB, get RAM from CRUCIAL or other GOOD brand not cheap ****, then get all the other bits to fit in with what money you've got left... GF4 ti4200.... go on...

as to your orig question, do not buy SDRAM, DDR2100 at minimum, maybe worth getting faster stuff than that tho... and for the money you're spending, go Athlon...
