Default Surface Studio

This is really nice if you can't have an iMac.

Not getting into a Apple vs MS debate.

I have owned various iMacs over the years (from the 2006 version, currently on a 27" 2015 model) love them. But, this will be replacing it...

Microsoft have really upped their game with hardware over the last few years.

So probably 3,000 GBP when it arrives here. You're right, it's a lot of money.

The specs look great though, especially with the 980M graphics. The 'Surface Dial' would be really useful for CAD modelling and love the way it folds down.

I really like the form factor and who doesn't like twisty dials. I have high hopes but things like the Surface stylus issues would worry me.

Those adverts are good fun. It feels like the oppinions of someone who got everything they know of Mac from the internet, rather than actually trying one.

Being and M model graphics card it will be crap for CAD. graphics is one thing you don't want to scrimp on for CAD packages.

What issues have you heard of? Genuinely curious, as I've not encountered issues with my wifes SP3.

It uses an Nvidia GeForce GTX 980M GPU with 4GB though, not exactly a slouch, I know it could better but either way it should be able to cope with CAD.

Depends what your doing, with 3D modeling becoming the norm even for lighter CAD packages (such as autocad moving over to revit or similar) then i wouldn't want to be stuck with one of those for a 3 or 4 year life cycle.

3D modelling is the big one, programmes like Catia really work a machine hard.

Yep, so when you see slow down even on basic CAD packages your wasting your time with anything else

Yea well i don't think the device we are talking about is designed or intended for 3D modelling/CAD anyway. Its more for Graphic design.

32GB of ram should be fine? What do you use other than Photoshop/lightroom?

I have a few colleague who have the Surface Pro's and they are really disappointed in them

the docking station does not seem to have been tested properly

but happy to admit anecdotal
