Default Finishing with Virgin, who's decent?

Virgin have just asked me for the years 5% increase six months early.
They refuse to justify it and have given me NOWT I haven't had to beg for in fifteen years as a customer.
I pay £65 pm, am on med TV, 150Mb broadband and my phone.
We will go to Freeview, dump the phone line but could do with decent broadband.
However, we don't stream films etc.

So what's recommended?

I have a regular problem with Virgin putting up the monthly costs but retention will normally offer a discount to keep the actual monthly bill the same my current official monthly rental for basic broadband is £32 due to the price rises they have applied since i joined 3 years ago at £22 (i wish my wages went up by that percentage!) but with loyalty discounts i pay £17

I would have a talk with retention's

If you do leave look at a free-sat package you can do the dish and cablje yourself so just need a cheap dish from screwfix etc and a decoder for about £70

£65 is a joke - We are on 100MB BB and large TV for £35 a month, no phone though.

Given by the retentions dept after I told them I was going to go to BT and get a large cashback deal on Topcashback.co.uk

I'd first have a word with your neighbours and see what service they are on and quality of speed/service. If your area has been completely ignored by openreach (who manage the lines and exchanges) the chances of a decent internet connection from any of the companies could be limited- regardless of their promises.

Our work internet is in a Openreach poverty area...3megabit on a good day with almost daily service drop-outs. We've been with three different providers and none of them can sort it. Businesses next door have the same issue; the problem is the lines and exchange which is Openreach's responsibility. This a densely populated urban area, not the sticks!

Accounts next door switched to Virgin, we'll be doing the same once they sort out the surveying...we have no option as we are having a VOIP system fitted!

Annoyingly I can walk ten minutes down the road to my gran's flat and get 20megabit ADSL. Been sorely tempted to get up on the roof and see if I can hook up some WiMAX aerials to piggyback of my gran's internet, but I don't think their is line of sight LOL.

Take a look at Zen broadband - I have my landline with them on package which provides free unlimited calls to 01,02,03 0845 and 0870 numbers and FTTC broadband upto 75Mb with unlimited use for £54 a month.

Been with them for nearly 10 years, can recall only two short outages in that time, their call centres are in the UK and support if you need it is very good - based in Rochdale. I rely on my connectivity for work - cant fault them.

Could bring this down to about £43 if you dont mind a 50Gb use cap and max 38mbps.
