One of my first email accounts was with Yahoo..registered it in 1996. Might even still exist if I can remember the password... Think my first email account was with zetnet or barrysworld (remember them? )
And not to forget Geocities...swallowed up by Yahoo and shut down....when in reality it was a early version of MySpace with potential to be turned into something as big as Facebook well before it even existed.
Lots of missed opportunities, meanwhile its core search engine page and webmail became clunky and slow to use due to adverts and needless features whilst Google became slicker and faster.
Typical tale of survival of the fittest...Yahoo's health is likened to that of a obese American fed on junk food.

It is the key point:Adverts are fine so long as they don't take over the page or slow down page loading/rendering. Ive boycotted loads of websites (mostly tabloid websites) because the adverts taking over made the content unreadable or took too long to load a page.
Whoever invented the light box feature needs to be punched in the goolies.
And I'm fully aware of the irony that SN's speed and viewing suffers when the adverts are enabled. Not much I can do about that, sadly.
