Default Windows 7 pro - windows 10

I seem to have mislaid photos which had before - surely this couldn't happen ?

I mean they must be somewhere

A lot of my data went missing when I 'upgraded'. I rolled it back to Windows 7 and it reappeared. Needless to say I'm sticking with 7 for the time being

dpd,

it won't help you, but the more i hear about Windows 10, the less that i will touch it even with an elongated barge pole (and i never liked it in the first place!).

How Microsoft are getting away with such a buggy, incomplete and forcefull (nevermind data-slurping) what used to be called an operating system is beyond me

I would be tempted to mount your (now Win10) drive as an external drive on another computer and try to copy/save any missing data, before trying to roll back to Windows 7 (which, fingers crossed will still have your old stuff).

Just so you all know, Windows 10 will be free upgrade until July, after that prices start from £150 for W10 Pro.

can you not use something like file scavenger to find them, they obviously exist but win10 doesnt recognised their format for reason,
If you roll back and they are still there they cant physically be being deleted.

as an IT Professional i've been running Win10 for a while on both of my laptops, personally it's leaps and bounds ahead of 8 and 8.1 with a number of improvements over 7. My best advice would be that before you upgrade back up any important files, upgrade to 10 once it's activated perform a fresh install of 10 as it will then allow you to use your 7 or 8 key.

In place upgrades are always going to be buggy however since performing a fresh install i've not had a single issue

I've been a long time hater of 7 and 8 and as such have stuck to XP.
Although 10 is similar to 7/8 in feel, I took the plunge on a new lappy with a fresh 10 install. More than happy
Still say XP is better for a dummy like me but as its no longer supported..........

Lost my key and the sticker on the back has worn so can make it out, would I still be able to upgrade from 7 to 10 without it?

If you still have a activated Windows 7 install then you can just download and run Magical Jelly Bean KeyFinder - https://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/ which will tell you you're activation key. During the upgrade process you don't need to input the key however and then once you have activated it once Windows will recognise it for future installs however it's always handy to have

Hi,
I upgraded to 10 from my Win 7 Pro on my laptop.
After the upgrade, I could not get on Internet - either through Wifi or Ethernet cable.
I looked online for answers (it's quite a common problem) but could not find an easily solution.
So - downgraded back to Win 7 and Internet works again!
Don't think I will bother upgrading to 10 again, on this laptop.
Might try it on another laptop that is running 8.1.
Cheers
Steve

I'd suspect it's a driver related issue with regards to your wireless adapter on your laptop, if i was a betting man i'd say a simple reinstall of the driver would have resolved it

Hi,
Tried that and the driver for the Ethernet - but neither worked.

very peculiar i'd still suspect it's something to do with an old driver from your previous OS lingering, after I upgraded I got random BSOD's relating to a graphics issue, no amount of uninstalling and reinstalling drivers resolved it. Instead I backed up everything and performed a clean install and haven't had any issues since

I don't know what the F you lot are doing. I've upgraded four PC's at home to WIN10, all 100% fine!

It's the best OS they've produced for ages.

the vast majority is driver related issues, some people will be lucky depending on what hardware/driver revision they are using

i have several older games that work fine on win 7, cant get em to work on 10, also have memory leaks occasionally on win10, thats with all drivers uptodate and windows updates done.

Win7 is far superior

usually hides in the user folder of the windows.old folder on the c.drive after an upgrade.

Check the C Drive, look for windows.old, open it, look in users/#username#/documents&settings
