...sorry, another broadband question

Am feeling anarchic and don't feel like signing up to BT broadband. Have had poor experiences trying to ask them questions and the adslguide.org bbs section on them is nothing but complaints.

Am therefore considering Nildram - with a self-purchased Speed Touch 510 modem/router to plug into my hub and serve the home XP network.

Any experiences of Nildram and/or this modem/router, please?

Hmm, I dumped Clara after 3 1/2 years cos of bad service and after 4 months with Nildram things aint much better with them either

They have not replied to an e-mail sent to tech support over 24 hours ago, and I read they are doing an upgrade next week, thats the same kind of crap that Clara gave me for 4 months when they were 'upgrading'.

Pipex are getting good reviews and Eclipse too.

Just about decided on Nildram and Speed Touch 510, and am setting my expectations that there will be problems - need I worry?

I've used Nildram for about 18 months. Generally happy with the connection after the first 3 months, when there were some teething troubles - virtually no downtime, and very few disconnections nowadays.

I'm not that happy with the response of their customer services team to requests and emails though. They charged me a whole years bill to my credit card when I renewed my subscription monthly, and it took me about 2 months to get them to sort this out and extend my contract after the recent ADSL price reduction.

I currently use the Alcatel "stingray" modem, but should be getting a new ethernet modem/router this week.

Gary.

Thanks Gary - It was a close run thing, but I've just signed up an application form for Eclipse Internet.

They're cheap (£22.75 pm, incl. a static IP address, email and 20MB web space) and get one of the best ratings on adslguide.org.uk (largely broken today BTW).

Its only a one month contract - so I can get out (subject to another activation fee with someone else of course) quickly if they're rubbish.

Speed Touch 510 arrives tomorrow...waheyyyy
