As an owner of the full fat Z3, I can't complain on any front, it also has great build quality.
Of all the phones I looked at back in Feb this was the best build imo + it has a gorgeous Bravia 2 screen which again for me was the best screen of all of the phones I looked at, camera is really good, 4K video if you're that way inclined.
Dont know if the mini has full waterproofing but the bigger one does.

I have Iphones and Z2...
Z2 is good, but its android I'm not a hater but its no way near an IPhone for functionality, and I'm fed up with Apps crashing to need resetting..
My Inlaws are 60s and they have both the IPhone and Xperia device same as Z series, they prefer the IPhone for ease...
IPhone gets my vote Ali, but the Sonys are very good, I just cant stand android based stuff....

I have an iPhone 6 for work and don't really like it.

I have a love-hate relationship with iOS. I like the concept, but in practice I just can't fully gel with it; It doesn't help that there is no other apple device in the house or work, except friends and family who have iPhone. Android is the other way round, more flexible, but not so coherent in multi-device connectivity.
So I'd lose facetime, no big deal, iMessage I could deal with, and I'd lose iTunes and iCloud which is another love-hate relationship; In principal its great, in practice its frustrating.
Z3 compact is bigger, but better spec, cheaper and newer. iP5S is smaller (good), but older tech and more expensive.
Or should I wait for when "small" phones become fashionable again? There is a demand, its only a matter of time. Thing is a brand spanking new model is going to cost more than one thats been around for a while like the above two....

My personal phone is an IP5 and the work mobile is a HTC android thing! I just don't understand how anyone can get on with android! I have that much hatred for it that I've chucked my shiny new HTC in the back of the drawer and have pulled a 2009 Sony Ericsson non smart (not even remotely clever) phone out of retirement. Never will I have another android!

Well after waiting for the Xperia z5 compact in hope they would make it smaller, to find its just the same, and considering the iP5 is getting long in teh tooth, I had another good hard look at the iP6.
After some bartering with O2 I have a 6S 128gb on order. Not exactly what I want; but as always what I want doesn't exist

I've been looking a an ip6 now that they are a little cheaper with the s coming out but I still don't want to pay £10 more per month for something that does the same job as my ip5
ios 9 is ios 9 with little in the way of real world performance differences on what ever ip it happens to be installed on. Maybe if Apple brought out a 4" screen ip6s then I may have been swayed but they haven't so............ Till the ip7 arrives..........

Yeah, for me it just maintains the status quo; my current phone is dying so I need a new one, but I really want something smaller. On the bright side I'm actually paying a few quid less a month (£4) than current for the same tarrif and I'm paying nothing to upgrade. Being a 128 gig model it should hold its value better so if something compact does get released, I should be able to sell it easier and buy what I really want when it finally gets produced.

They do, show me.
I'm talking about my phone case, not my Watch, so far Biking, Swimming, Kayaking, Gardening, Paragliding haven't been 'Extreme' enough for the Watch to need a case. The iPhone doesn't need one either but mine adds utility, I also have one with a built in retractable carabiner for easy selfies, that adds utility too.
