Every time I try to load the page, I get this:

Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to mail.google.com. security library: improperly formatted DER-encoded message. (Error code: sec_error_bad_der)

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.

Been like that two days. Is it them, or me?

Thats an error related to the SSL cert for the site (I suspect you might have guessed as much) is it limited to one browser or have you tried in FF/Chome/IE?

But it's ALWAYS my preferred browser and it's always worked before

Do sites like Google do this to force me to use Chrome?

If it's an issue only in Firefox then it's probably down to the way FF is reading the security certificate and I'd imagine it's a known bug by now since it's unlikely just to be you that's having problems - have you checked for updates? They also offer 'nightly' builds which address minor issues which don't justify a full point release (https://nightly.mozilla.org/), installing one of those might help.

As an aside I used to be a devoted FF user too, but I'm so deeply embedded in Googles products now that Chrome has become the logical choice - it's a bloody good browser too, helpfully

Thanks, Chrome seems slow and clunky compared to FF.
