Default Android TV Box?

I was talking to a friend at work about getting a chromecast for my TV, & he said to get an Android TV box instead.

Up until he said that I have never even heard of an Android TV box.

I have tried to check them out online, but find it all very confusing re XBMC, Miracast etc... it's a whole different language.

Does anyone here know anything about them, what's good to have on them, & what would be a good one to buy?

I bought an Android tv box, and was a load of rubbish, froze on some apps, the remote was slow to move cursor and you have to be close to box, and i got one with quadcore proser etc good one not cheapest.

I wouldn't recommend one

Thanks for your replies guys, I think I will leave the technology to develop a bit further before I invest.

Chromecast is slick and easy, so long as you have a recent smartphone or tablet, it can sometimes be had for £20 brand new, and at the time i got mine came with 'chromecast offers' inc 3 months now tv entertainment pass which is great value

Grab a raspberry pi and put XBMC/KODI on it... You won't look back.

Ever since Mashup was removed from the Android box's they just hasn't been the same but the box I have as its own dashboard and forum backup and is probably the best available.....I use mine all the time whether for films or streaming live sports.

I bought an android box for £60 and it's the best £60 I've ever spent. Although I must add that I ordered a keyboard/ mouse remote off amazon for £13 as using the standard remote is painful to say the least. I also installed ultimate XBMC on my box which is a total rehaul of the original XBMC. It depends where your at with technology as well. I've got a mate at work who bought one and hates it because he can't get his head around how it works.
