I need a new graphics card to run GTAIII. The game requires 12 maybe 16MB minimum but is it worth getting a 32MB or possibly a 64MB?
I have an empty AGP slot on my board so I can use that but I don't really know what to look for, how much to spend, etc.
Soon I am going to dual boot my machine with Windows 98 (for games) and Windows XP (for Scoobynet ). Would that matter? The type of games I mostly run are car racing, rally, Grand Prix but on the odd occasion I will want to play something like Medal of Honour (which I have installed but have never found the time to play .
I currently have an 8MB on board VGA card and its fine for most things but it’s to low for GTA3.
Thanks
Darren

Look at the Radeon 8500 or 8500 LE. Great performance at a fraction of the cost of the latest GF4Ti's. I've just got one and well chuffed with it. According to 3dMark 2001 only the the GF4Ti 4600 and 4400 beat it on performance. Not bad for £130.

Perosnally I would go for a geforce3 ti200 for 85 quid.
Got mine from dabs.com and it runs gta3 very smoothly at high resolutions
Have heard that radeons can have driver problems with some games (not sure how true this is)
Also would say a gf2mx is a bit old hat now, having upgraded from one of these

Gf2mx may be old hat but its runs very nicely and was pretty cheap. Although it was a bit of an implulse buy. On reflection I would have gone for a Gf3 or poss a Gf4mx. Needed a fast-ish card with TV-Out that could cope with most modern games and this fits the bill.

Have read that GTA3 really requires 64Mb to run well, 32Mb to be adequate. Some people reporting problems with GeForce cards and the latest set of drivers. Take a look at the comments for the review of GTA3 on www.eurogamer.net

Be careful, the GF3 series are way more advanced than the GF4mx series. A very naughty move on the part of Nvidia. The GF4mx core is completely different to the mainstream 4 series and the 3 series.
The core is a slightly modified GF2mx series core. Really was tight of them IMO.
The GF3ti200 would be a much better bet, imho (sorry dunk ).
Cheers,
Nick
