4k TV.Too early??
I was browsing around Currys & they are really pushing 4K ultra high definition.
Big advertising banners, loads of sets on display & the demo's are really impressive.
But when I asked the 'technical' guy about any media that would be available to actually make use of this wonderful new technology he seemed to struggle to come up with anything. He mentioned that Sky might be doing the World Cup in 4K.
I have Virgin & I don't have or want Sky so that's no good too me.
So is there any point & is there anything you can play on these things?
It's a bit like owning a Ferrari & having no petrol to put in it!

No don't bother it's just marketing faf! I'm alll for future proofing but the fact that there is currently nothing capapble of playing 4k in the home market yet and no media says it all.
Just get a good panel with some smart fetures if needed. I have an 8000 F series 55" Sasmung that I love to bits quad core and I've never seen a picture that beats it............yet!

No point yet, manufacturers are struggling to master motion in 4K and gaming is a big no no on a set with extra processing.
They say anything under 50" and it starts getting harder to see a difference between 1080 and 4K pic quality. 4K is really for the massive TV's that are starting to come out that need extra pixels...
The SONY 55W905 really takes some beating at £1199 with a cashback for goals offer. European TV of the year with ground-breaking gameplay. Only gripe is the picture becomes washed out if you watch from an angle.

I looked at getting one a few weeks back and when I searched the web more about the 4k panels it turns out they are bringing out a new standard of 4k. Its a bit like when they brought out hd TV's in 720 then the 1080p came out.
Supposedly the older 4k panels won't support the newer standard and will either have a blank screen or picture quality will be poor.

The opinion is that 4k is a waste of time and the broadcasters are probably going to hold back until the kit manufacturers have 8k available... The best you can hope for is to play BluRay disks on one, I doubt you'll see any large scale 4k on TX for quite a while. The main thing to remember is that the TV manufacturers just want consumers (you) to buy new product, it's all bull****... Remember 3D was the best thing since sliced bread, it's as good as died without a trace, oh and most panels supplied with 3D had one chip difference and that cost the manufacturers pence and they charged you hundreds for that feature.

They continually come up with new gimmicks because they need people to buy to support the recovery/growth of the economy. Without the low/middle incomes buying expensive goods there is no wealth transfer. Early adopters are what fuels it all.

I have to say look at Sony, I've been a hardened Panasonic and Samsung man for years, and I bought a sony for the bedroom, there new 705 bravia, the picture is pin sharp and the colours are amazing.
This is also the. Same on this new Z2 tablet, they use some xreality engine. As for 4k for the asking price now of 1600 for one, it would be rude not to.
Although I do prefer OLED but lifespans not long I heard
