Upgrade my Dell Precision 410 workstation
#1
I've applied all the lastest (August 2000 )BIOS upgrades on my workstation, so I know it will take higher P3 processors.
Apprently BIOS patch A12 lifted the maximum processor from P3 600MHz to P3 800MHz. http://support.euro.dell.com/uk/en/f...NT_PII_410&st=
And BIOS patch A13 supports newer steppings of the P3 processors.
And the lastest one A14 does not change this further.
So my question is what is the highest P3 processor I can use in this machine? It's a slot rather than a socket, so what was the highest P3 processor? And will it work in my machine?
And as they are not current stock, where can I get hold from?
Scan for example http://www.scan.co.uk/products/cpu.htm have two different types of P3 processors FCPGA or FCPGA II.
I assume that I the P3 1Ghz FCPGA processor will work and the FCPGA II use a different slot/socket??
Please help!

first of all, you need a "slocket". it's a socket to slot convertion to take your new socket CPU. so will have jumper setting to adjust for extra voltage/speed, etc.
have a look at www.overclockers.co.uk or www.dabs.com for the slocket. they are getting rarer and rarer!

Re-read the Dell website, it looks like the P3 800MHz will work with the BIOS revision from Decemember 1999.
So I want to know the highest revision of P3 slot 1 in February 2000 as that will be all it can take.
I had a look on the Intel site, but it wasn't much help!
