Recommend me a laptop?
Hi, I'm going to require a laptop for running a small business, basically need something that's not to expensive but reliable and fairly speedy.
I'll be using it to run Sage quick accounts and for a bit of internet browsing etc.
Any recommendations please
If not it will be a trip to curry's to speak to someone that may or may not have a clue about computers
Thanks, Steve

Hi, thanks for your reply.
Budget wise I'm guessing around £400 should get a decent quality bit of kit.
Screen size I'd say just the 15 inch or there abouts.
Resolutions and weight isn't really a concern.
Battery life again shouldn't be to much of a problem because will nearly always be by a plug.
I guess a cd/DVD drive could be useful.
Really need something with quite a large memory but I guess I could get an external hard drive.?
Thanks

I think most brands are a much of a muchness these days in quality. Unless you are looking at top end stuff like Macbooks, XPS and Toughbooks etc.
Most cheaper laptops at 15" are 1366 x 768 resolution.
Top end are up to 3200x1,800 (macbook, dell XPS etc).
Mid range will be 1920x1080
I'm a resolution snob, so I'm always biased towards higher res screens (768 lines was supassed back in the 1990's )...I'm currently typing this post on a 1920x1200 res monitor; I couldn't live with 768 lines.
Sage is getting quite resource hungry and costly these days (which is why we've moved away from it for professional accounting) so plenty of RAM is nice; 8gig will be plenty; but you can never have too much RAM
CPU. Intel i3 will do, but a i5 will be better i7 is the best. Pick what suits the budget. Personaly, I'd plumb for a i5.
Harddrive, well 500gig minimum, but 300gig would probably suffice. You'd only want more if you want to store movies and music on there.
In a nutshell, pick the laptop with the best resolution and processor in your price bracket. Hard drives and RAM are often easily upgradable.
If its always going to plugged in also consider a compact "all-in-one PCs, i.e one built into a monitor....better posture for your neck/back...which is a consideration with your neck haunched over a laptop plugging away at accounts. Obviously depends on how portable you want it to be.

This is pretty decent for the money. Bit above your budget, but tidy spec.
