At present I've got windows 98 and I'm trying to upgrade to 98SE with a windows 98SE disk but it tells me that I need the windows 98SE upgrade disk, is this true or is there another way round this.
thanks

From what I remember there are two versions, one upgrade and one full version (as always)
If you want to upgrade then you will need the upgrade version, however the version you have should allow you to install a second copy of Win98 in parallel to your previous version. You could then migrate data etc over. A lot of agro I know, but probably your only choice.

theres always a workaround boot into DOS not DOSbox! rename win.com to win.old in your Windows DIR, (in DOS cd c:\windows then ren win.com *.old) then again booting from a floppy bootdisc, rerun the 98se setup from CD.
If that doesnt work then make another full install into another DIR, with the 98SE CD, ie c:\win98, and migrate over your files like Oakers said.
If all fails and u want to go back to your original install, dont forget to rename win.old to win.com, otherwise nothing will happen
