Default Meguiar's DA G220v2 Machine Polisher

Hi all, and Merry Christmas.

I have been given the above polisher as a Christmas present, and could do with some advice.

I've looked on the internet, but it seems to be a minefield of compounds and pads to use.

I have an 07 Hawk, and a 54 plate Passat that I'd like to machine polish. Both have average for the year sponge marks, fine lacquer scratches and the usual haze that can be seen better under artificial lighting.

However, I'm a bit lost as to exactly what pads and compounds / polishes to use.
I guess a compound will remove the swirls and scratches etc, and a polish will be the final treatment, but I'm looking for advice as to which products to use.

It's apparent that I don't have to use Megs products, but any suggestions?

I should think that Jap and German paints and lacquers are very different, I suspect the Jap stuff is much softer?

Thanking you in advance.

I had a read of this when I got my 220 V2 and it was very useful:

I bought a smaller backing plate for it so I can switch between large and small pads, and a selection of Menzerna polishes to experiment with based on the above guide:

Imprezas tend to have soft paint so be careful!

Chemical Guys Hex Logic pads and Menzerna compounds are always a great place to start. I'd get a green (light cutting) pad and a black (medium polishing/finishing) pad and Menzerna PF2400/2500 & FF3000

You'll be surprised what you can achieve with the correct technique.

Don't forget something to seal/protect the paint once It's been machine polished. (Sealant or wax)

I think those Hex Logic pads are too small for my DA.

The backing plate on mine has 5" of Velcro and nearly 6" total backing plate.

Would I not have a dangerous overhang of rubber from the backing plate which might catch the paint?

Which Megs pads could I get that would do a good job?

I already have a Megs Soft Buff 2.0 yellow pad (7" total pad) - W8207.

I guess this one would be for the compounding stage, but what about for finishing?
