I'm by no means a pro but I've detailed a fair few cars now, but still struggle with the paint on my Scoob! I find it a pain to correct but then it mars really easily its like the worse of both worlds! Swapping to flat constant pressure pads instead of the cellular lake country ones has helped massively but compared to my friends BMW paint it seems to take so much longer to get the same results.
Does anyone else have this problem??
My car is a blue black mica bug eye by the way.

What products are you using? Are you trying to remove swirls or just buff it up?

Menzerna 85rd 302 intensive polish and finishing with the menz 85rd.
The results are good its just the massive time taken to get there and then the relatively soft paint when it comes to getting defects back!
Really I'm just venting my frustration!!!
Other paints I've detailed such as Astons BMWs and Audi's seem to come up with relative ease using the same methods and the finish lasts longer!

do you have a paint thickness gauge? most jap cars have quite soft and thin paint

the s2000 i done here was only giving readings of 90-110 on my gauge which is quite thin, it was its first machine polish as the guy had it from new

i use meznerna as well, i use power finish p0203s then super finish p0106fa, i use a hex logic pad for the cut and a menzerna finishing pad at the end

sometimes i can get a perfect finish without using the super finish but it all depends on the car im working on

BMW cars have very hard paint and cant take a beating before any correction starts

are you clearing your pads during polishing? keeping them damp as well helps

Try working the polish longer and harder, then reduce speed to refine it. Menzerna needs to be fully broken down properly otherwise the abrasives in it can leave micro marring

I do clean the pads between panels to keep the dried polish to a minimum but perhaps a spritz of something like final touch would help?
The change to the flat constant pressure pads made a huge difference to me.
Often the rd85 3.02 gets things pretty much perfect but I do see the additional gloss with the final finish polish.
Collinite to finish is my preference!

I'd give the pad a spritz after every time you clear the pad, dry pads can cause hazing holograms etc and can make the buffer "hop"

I have a couple colonise waxes, meguiars autolglym etc

I just tried autoglym hd wax for the first time last week and I really like it easy on and off unlike the collinite which can be a pain to get off if left to long, a damp applicator helps

I use fk1000p for wheels as its pretty hard wearing

I'm fighting between autoglym hd wax or megs#16 when my scooby is delivered next week it's dark blue not sure on the correct name the pics in my avatar, hopefully get a I nice deep shine
