This stuff is excellent if you want to just remove the rust and welding isn't needed:

You need to cover it in cling film once you've applied it if practicable, and be patient with it. It's slow, but it will get rid of every trace of the rust if you give it time.
I used it to completely de-rust a rear axle from an Opel Manta a few years back. 22 years of rust all gone in a week or so.

I had slight bubbling on my rear arches on my my2000 classic and sanded it down and treated it with krust and 3monts later it has not got any worse at all
Prehaps the next level will be pressure wash and a really good clean up of the arches then a
Bilt hamer cavery wax spread over them?
Think I will try the bilt hamer product as even a big tub at £40 is not a lot of money to spend and I will try a little bit underneath the car on the corroded bits
What are others trying to help preserve their classics ?

I've used various of Bilt Hamber's products for years on my old Manta (a classic, but not a Classic!) and I can thoroughly recommend it. Mantas make Subarus look like they're made of stainless steel in the going rusty stakes.
I used to use Waxoyl, but it's absolutely rubbish by comparison with the BH stuff.
