I had a bad experience waxing my freshly painted matt black alloys - it left all white residue behind (I was using el cheapo turtle wax for the job so as not to waste my Collinite 845)
I wont use the turtle wax for this job again!

Various sealants (gtech, nanolex etc) can be used which will protect them, with a small amount of gloss (not alot) added.
You do need to make sure that the cleaner (if using shampoo to clean your wheels with for instance) dont contain any gloss enhancer.
