Default Cleaning a Chrome Exhaust Tip.

I've stuck an aftermarket exhaust on my car last year and have never been bothered to clean it as i thought it was a bit "ghey" doing it but now its very much caked with soot and needs sorting!

One of the members on here Brocks gave me some wire wool stuff to scrub the soot off but i'm concerned about tarnishing the Chrome finish. What is the best way to getting my exhaust looking like new?

James...Wire wool IS aggressive......and needs to be refined with either Autosol or Megs NXT Metal Polish......

Before using it, you could try the Autosol/ Megs

In order of aggression they are (most aggressive first)
1. Wire wool
2. Autosol
3. Megs NXT

You could also try a Dremmel type tool with a polishing head

Got myself some Autosol half an hour ago, Andy's brother gave me some pads to work it in with so i'll try that first, then if needs be try the wirewool and Autosol.

The car is in a sorry state of affairs thismorning, a Pheasant met its maker all over my front bumper thismorning.

Cheers for the advice again Scott!

Super degreaser applied 4-1. Leave to soak. This will help break the carbon desposits down and reduce the need for wire wool. Then apply again and aggitate with an old mf. Do this a few times if needed.

After this start to polish with a good metal polish applied with a german applicator pad. Autosol is ok but there are better ones out there. Mothers Mag and Alloy polish is about the best I've come across. Plus it's a one step rather than needing to refine.
