Default best stuff to clean hoses etc

what do people use to keep there hoses and plastic bits clean under the bonnet

I use a little hand held steam cleaner, You can get them from ebay for about £15. One of those and a couple of rolls of bounty will do the trick.

Pressure washer
Engine degreaser (I use Autoglym)
Brush to agiate with
Pressure washer
Dry with engine running/tea towels
Spray with something like Gunk Laquer

Stand back and admire

Clean everything first with R222 Total Auto Wash, then protect with 303 Aerospace Protectant. Full recommended method illustrated here...

Similar to me then, but I used a laquer over silicone spray so it lasts longer ans easier to clean hoses again.

Do you mean laquer INSTEAD of silicon spray? I assume you mean "paint" laquer!
If you do doesnt it start to peal off after a while? I use Halfords silicon spray onna Motorbike and mi car engine bay an it lasts fer ages,its an excellent protecterent jus dont geddit on tyres or brakes!

Nooo, not paint laquer. Like a sealant laquer spray especially for under the bonnet. It was called Gunk Laquer, as I used Autoglym enginer degreaser as my cleaner stuff.
