i have had bird s**t on my car boot for about 4 days now i washed it today and was drying it off when i noticed were the bird s**t was it had liked bubbled the paintwhat the hell will get this s**t off or wont i get it off.

sorry to say mate but i think it wont. never actually experienced it myself cos my dad always said "if a bird does shat on yout car, wash it off asap cos it can **** your paintwork. i think it has some sort of acidic property in it. if it was me i would either leave it and get it sorted in a bodyshop along with all your stonechips etc. at a later date or attempt to have a go myself.

If a bird ***** on mine, I wash it off immediately, very nasty stuff to ignore for 4 days, as you've just found out unfortunately.

Just to add Dave; when you wash the car, always wax it afterwards. Sod polish as this is a restorative product, not a sealant like wax. My little Pug has a few layers of wax on her now, so when the unfortunate happens with bird poo, a few sprays of lube (like you get in a clay kit) and a soft wash mitt get rid of the bugger quick sharp.

this has happened to me this week on the bonnet and it has made a right mess. Has got a bit better with using t-cut but can still be seen, I'm hoping a few more washes and waxing sessions will improve it

This type of damage is etching caused by high uric acid content in the crap; it effectively eats into the paint surface, and the effect is enhanced under direct sun conditions (heat often speeds up chemical reactions). There is no way to tell how deep the etching is until you start to polish the paint to cut the etching out. In some cases the etching wil be light and polishing will give full correction; however, in some cases the damage may penetrate very deep into the paint system, meaning the only full solution is a respray of the panel in question. Bird crap - death from above to paint finishes!
