Autosol has been around for decades I think and for a good reason, top notch stuff.

As above; a nice mild metal polish applied using a firm foam pad, then a coat of a decent metal sealant to lock in the finish and prevent the problem from reoccurring.

On this subject if anyone can help, had a TSL Stainless backbox on for around 18months now and over the last 4 months despite using autosol almost weekly on it the end pipe has started developing what looks almost like water stains on it, not rough to the touch and doesnt look like rust, any ideas for cleaning it up,

Thanks,

Odd given the current routine, can you post a few piccies of the problem please? Might need a more aggressive polish first to correct the problem, followed by a finishing polish to restore a perfect shine. Let's see the problem first and take it from there...

Hope these work, not the best done with camera phone, but you can just make out the patterned 'staining'

Was reading on NASIOC that grade 0000 steel wool may clean it up without scratching it but not sure

Cheers

Hmm, strange, I would have thought that Autosol would have been enough to keep that at bay. 0000 grade wire wool would be a safe enough option and does work well in many cases when used with a mild metal polishes. Another good option (even safer) would be to use a cut down German CCS Light Cut Pad, as this will offer greater bite to the metal polish without any danger of inflicting polishing lines...

The answer will likely be elbow grease and either wire wool/firmer foam pad and possibly a two stage process starting with a stronger cutting polish (Blackfire Fine Cut Metal Polish) and then finishing with a mild polish (Meguiars NXT All Metal Polysh). Afterwards, I would suggest sealing with Blackfire All Metal Sealant, as this will protect the finish for months at a time, with no need to keep polishing on a weekly basis.

Thanks for that will try polishing with the pad sugested before attempting the wire wool route.

probably a silly question how do you clean your backbox, ie do you jack the car up, lie on the ground etc, and how far back do you clean etc

Only do tail pipe and part of the box that I can reach from the back of the car, dont jack it up or anything like that. Strange thing is that only the tail pipe gets caked in tar, crap etc, rest of box gets dirty but isnt too bad
